THIS SITE and MY MUSIC IS DEDICATED, TO ALL THE BRAVE WARRIORS WHO SERVED IN THE LAND OF BAD THINGS...........VIETNAM
AND
TO ALL THE BRAVE WARRIORS WHO ARE SERVING TO KEEP OUR COUNTRY FREE FROM THOSE WHO WANT TO DESTROY US NOW...
THE REST OF THE SHIT......
" FLAMES & 106's"
0351
" Ain't Nuthin Like Humppin a Zippo"

I served in the United States Marine Corps from Oct 1, 1964
through March 5, 1969. While in the Corps, I had four MOS's.
First MOS was 2571, however I was "denied" a Top Security Clearance
and MOS was then Changed to 2533. Served in that Capacity until I was
again "denied" a "Secret" Clearance.
Then I was transferred to the First Battalion, 27th Marines for Jungle
Warfare Training in Kaneohe Hawaii. Finally, I was in an outfit where
I felt like I belonged. My MOS was changed to 0351, which officially
was titled "Anti Tank Assaultman", but we more commonly referred to it
as "Flames and 106's"....I was put in "Flames", or as we called it,
"Zippo Humpper"
Serving with 1/27 in Vietnam was the most meaningful thing I have ever
done in my entire life....
After being wounded a few cliks from Hue City in 68, I was medivaced
to Phu Bai, then DaNang, and then to Yokosuka, Japan...Spent 6 weeks
there then shipped to Okinawa and back to the world....my last duty station
was back at Parris Island...Again my MOS was changed to 0141...
they stuck me in Regimental Headquarters filing papers. I should have
gotten out of the Corps in Oct 1968, but since I had 5 months and 5 days of
"Bad Time" to make up, they kept me in......
YEP.....I WUZ A SHITBIRD !!!

TAPS
Day is done..
Gone the sun
From the lakes
From the hills
From the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh
Fading light
Dims the sight
And a star
Gems the sky
Gleaming bright
From afar
Drawing nigh
Falls the night
Thanks and praise
For our days
Neath the sun
Neath the stars
Neath the sky
As we go
This we know
God is Nigh

"A TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT"
Tom "Mutha" Murtha
"Mutha Murtha", was a FMF Navy Corpsman during the Korean War,
and
A Recon Marine in Vietnam.
He is my brother, and I respect him more than any other
Vietnam Veteran or Marine Veteran
on the Face of the Earth.
I defy anyone to claim to do as much for Veterans as this
American Hero does...
God Bless Ya Tom....
Welcome Home and Semper Fi,
Love, Assholio

DOUG "WILDMAN" CAREY
"THE GRUNT" (USMC - 1965)
("I" Corps, Republic of South Vietnam)
"VIETNAM - This may be your finest
hour, for you're about to meet a Marine
"Grunt." Doff your cap, if you will; wave a flag; choke back a sob in
your
throat; wipe a tear from your eye, for this is a man who is fighting your
war. He is the Marine up front, the one that sees the enemy at twenty-five
yards. He is the one who knows what it is like to be shot at at close range
by small arms, to feel the searing pain and smell of the burning flesh of a
wound.
He is the one that dies a thousand times
when the night is dark and the moon
is gone. And he is the one who dies once and forever when an enemy rifle
belches flame. If you have ever slogged through sticky rice paddies or waded
a stream carrying 200+ rounds of ammunition, two canteens, a rifle and a
pack with enough field rations and spare clothing to last a week, then you
know why they call him "A Grunt". . .it is fairly obvious.
But look at him well and know him, for
he is really something; he wears in
dirty dignity, a helmet and flak jacket and faded uniform. His hands are
ripped and torn from contact with barbed wire and elephant grass. His wrists
are swollen from mosquito bites and his legs bear the scars of leech bites.
His pockets are full and his boots are mud-caked and his eyes never stand
still; they move and squint and twitch. He is nervous, aware of every sound,
for he operates in a never-never world where the difference between death
and one more tomorrow often depends on what he sees or does not see, what he
hears or does not hear.
A Grunt is the man who lives as close to
war as it is possible to get. His
rank varies, he may be a Lt. Col. A major, a captain or a lieutenant, but
mostly, he is a private, a lance corporal, a corporal or a sergeant. He
likes pilots because the planes give him a measure of protection. He likes
artillery outfits because they can knock the bejabbers out of an enemy unit.
He cares about supply units only to the extent that they can provide him
with something to eat and more ammunition to shoot.
He lives first for the day his tour will
be up and he can go back to "the
World." He lives next for an R & R (Rest and Relaxation). He'd like to
get
his hands on a cold beer because it would drive the heat from his throat and
ease the corroding pain in his gut. He'd like to feel the softness of a
woman. But he is a "Grunt" and if he can live through today, then
there will
be tomorrow. And if there are enough tomorrows, there will be R & R, the
cold beer, the feel of a woman, the end of his tour.
The "Grunt" as he stands in
dirty, muddy majesty, is as fine a fighting man
as the United States has ever produced. He is tough, intelligent and knows
how to kill the enemy. But he is a lot more than that. . .there is something
of a builder in these young men. They speak, sometimes of what must be done
to South Vietnam to make it right and workable; they speak of the government
and how it must work and, if you are lucky, you may get a "Grunt" to
speak
his mind about the war. He may tell you things in a language that is largely
unprintable. But it may not be surprising to learn that, for the most part,
he understands why he is here and believes in the purpose that put him where
he is today. . . . He is hard and calloused; he grits his teeth and curses
as he assaults the enemy but is also a warm and tender person as he hangs
his head and lets the tears roll down his cheeks as he lifts the lifeless
body of his buddy into the medevac helicopter for the last ride.
This man is really something for if you
take a "Grunt" out of his muddy,
water filled bunker, remove his helmet, his flak jacket, his field uniform,
take away his rifle, clean him up and dress him in a sports shirt, slacks
and loafers, you've got a kid who was playing on last years high school
football team. He is a national asset to be cherished; he is the difference
between freedom and communist slavery, he is a United States Marine and
because he has fought for it, life has a special flavor the cowards will
never know."

The above Photo is a very close friend of mine.

Dustin is currently serving aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt
He is like a lil brother to me, and he is at this time fighting with
his fellow shipmates to keep us Free from Terrorism.

Best way I can describe this "CONFLICT"..(yeah right)
is with the following TRUE words from Marines Pinned
down by a NVA entrenched Regiment during TET 68 in
Hue City....
If the dumb mutherfuckin' politician pukeheads would just let us alone and let us do our jobs, we'd be outta here and back to the World in no time at all. Shit!! No arty, no fixed wing, no direct support from those dumbshit, poor-ass tank crews; just our damned M-16s and grenades and they want us to root out a regiment of entrenched NVA in a day or two. Well, let them dumb asshole politicians come over here and follow me around for a minute or two, and see what kind of bullshit happens when dumbshit mutherfuckin' politicians start calling the shots on the ground. Jesus H. Christ, why can't they stick to kissing asses and babies
Obscene mumbling from pinned-down Marines overheard amid street fighting, Hue, 1968

The Way I Got it Figured
"DOC"
is the definition of
"HERO"
Never Have So Few, Given So Much !!

I’m the one called "Doc"
I shall not walk in your footsteps,
but I will walk by your side.
I shall not walk in your image,
I’ve earned my own title of pride.
We’ve answered the call together,
on sea and foreign land.
When the cry for help was given,
I’ve been there right at hand.
Whether I am on the ocean
or in the jungle wearing greens,
Giving aid to my fellow man,
be it Sailors or Marines.
So the next time you see a corpsman
and you think of calling him "squid",
think of the job he’s doing
as those before him did.
And if you ever have to go out there
and your life is on the block,
Look at the one right next to you...
I’m the one called "Doc".

"ITS
JUST A NAM THING"
I came upon a "NO BULLSHIT" web page, and soon discovered it also had
a CD for sale called, "ITS JUST A NAM THING". i'LL admit I was
skeptical about how good a CD could an Ole Grunt put out. Well, I let the man
know how I felt, and I got one of his CD's...I listened to the CD, then I
started it over and read and sang along with it...the words are included. The
voice, the words and the meaning took me back to the brothers I miss, had me
walking the streets looking for a Vet, and had me proud to be a United States
Marine once upon a time....defending our great country....and I hadn't even left
the room...If you haven't got one, go get one, you'll be glad you did.....
SEMPER FIDELIS ...." RED DOG "
Dane,
I just finished listening to the CD, "Its Just a Nam Thing", and all I
can say is WOW !! It leaves me almost speechless !!!............It was really
overwhelming, the lyrics alone are so moving, but in conjunction with the music,
the songs become so powerful, filled with a mixture of rhythms that all
generations can relate to them. All the songs were deep from within one's soul,
explicit of one's own dreary stint in the war.... I was overcome with emotions
when i heard the very first song, " Just an Old Viet Vet"...The
closing chorus telling of the Old Man being a decorated War Hero & yet all
forgotten. It's all too familiar with so many of our own War Hero's that it
consumes you with anger & sadness all at the same time. The songs really hit
the truth of the matter of so many forgotten & troubled Veterans. Hopefully
this CD will have more of a bearing for all who hears it, than just some kind of
closure for a Vietnam Vet or Veteran of any war. All of you did a GREAT JOB
recording them.

HEY !!!, Your CD is AWESOME !!! i
loveed your CD...I am so proud of you for putting it together. I am sure it was
healing for you and it is healing for others who need to hear your message...So

I recently received my copy of the
"Its Just a Nam Thing" CD and haven't been able to take it off of my
player. I am a great fan of SEA music, have a collection of songs by the great
singer/songwriters, Dick Jones, "Bull" Durham, etc. In my opinion
" Its Just a Nam Thing" rates right up there with the best that I've
heard. I recommend it to warriors of all services. If you've been there, done
that, there is something for you here

I am awe struck at the range of
emotions that the songs covered with the different type of song styles you
used...Rock and Roll, Sixties type music, and the last song M-Day3 just brought
me to my knees. I really liked "The Corps", "Its Just a Nam
Thing", "The Boys From 1/27" .....The background sounds were
AWESOME !
Grady "The Bird" Birdsong, USMC
Dane,
I received your CD about 2 weeks ago. The first think I did was go for a ride
down the river with it blasting on my cd player in my truck..I listened to it
over and over and agree with your description of " it's a must have, for
every Viet Vet"....I was 11bravo40 Army Infantry Central Highlands, 1st of
the 14th Infantry 4th Division SSgt platoon leader in 69..I have a good bro
"Keith Kruse", Marine 0311 68'..who lives in Prescott Arizona. I sent
him the CD just knowing how much it would mean to him also...He has a friend at
the Vet Center in Prescott where they are playing it now...I just ordered two
more. One to replace mine, and one to replace his.. Keep up the good work bro..I
have a large website and will help you promote this wonderful salute to all us
Vets....many like Keith and I...100 Percent permanent/Total. Love Ya Bro....
